A storefront window
dissolving echoes of truth
eternally etched
in the minds of old youth
sits centered
on a mossy brick facade.
Those passing by
never see what’s inside.
Though honestly,
that’s by design.
Perpetual dissonance
behind the arched cedar door
with its inside, not out
weathering more.
And the old cobblestone road
leads to longing for hope
of a safe place
for children to grow.

23.7.2023 14:09#SilentSunday #beach #photography #NewJersey #summerOnce read a 23&Me blog post citing a steep decline in the % of people identifying as African American when they had <28% African ancestry.

This was the case for my direct paternal great grandfather as well who would have been around this % and self-identified as white.
His WWII draft card had Race initially marked as "Negro", crossed out in red pen, and updated to "White"

He was in the United States #Army during #WWII and was deployed to fight in Italy.
Among the items I received were what appear to be a handful of German soldier belt buckles.
I’d love to learn more on how he may have received them.
For anyone that may have insight: Was this a common practice for soldiers? Would it have been a “trophy” of sorts?

When I was growing up, I saw a male peacock roosting in a tall black walnut tree in my parents’ backyard.
But my favorite has to be the turquoisine grass parakeet that decided to have a snack at our bird feeder when I was a kid.
Hope they both found their way home…
