1) follow Arch Wiki guidelines to install wine,
2) use winetricks to install CJK fonts,
3) download the Japanese archived version of RPGMaker RTP and install it with the variable `LANG="ja_JP.UTF-8"` (has to do locale-gen with it first),
4) profit

and their provided console somehow doesn't work with a shift key, so I couldn't even manually write my new SSH key to the VPS
