Has anyone made an auxlang which uses natlang words, but always chooses the shortest one possible? E.g. 'water' could be /o/ from...

Has anyone made an auxlang which uses natlang words, but always chooses the shortest one possible? E.g. 'water' could be /o/ from French, 'with' would be /s/ from Russian, etc.

Not planning to actually do this, feel free to implement it if you like the idea.

I love Mitchell's translation of the Dao De Jing, but he's way over on the "free translation" end of things. He doesn't know Akkadian, so I'd definitely defer to the translators who do.

But there's something to be said for a readable version that de-emphasizes the gaps and difficulties. David Ferry has another such version, in verse.

(He made wine every year, and this is the very last bottle. I'm not a wine guy so I can only say it's drinkable, certainly not vinegary, but maybe not something that tempts you to chug it down.)

Catastrophe today: my Mac is unusable. Took it to the Apple Store but all they could find was that the power and the disk drive are OK....

Catastrophe today: my Mac is unusable. Took it to the Apple Store but all they could find was that the power and the disk drive are OK. Reinstalling MacOSX hasn't worked. It hangs during startup.

I was able to confirm, with my previous Mac, that my backup device is working. But now I have to decide whether to buy a new one, or keep trying to restore this one.
