Is there any value in gamification outside of pumping dopamine through veins? Even for the people who play games? I feel that gamification one of most harmful things to the end users along with free delivery, notifications, and recommendations that maximize screen time. With a few exceptions. Am I missing something?

I feel that gamification...Just discovered a market for ticket resellers Vivid Seats and the same feature in the ticket master. I’m not sure that it is very bright idea to give the resellers a platform for doing what they are doing. I just bought tickets for +60% higher price because literally all tickets from resellers. There are plenty of them though.

And now I wonder if that idea of applying CW to everything will lead to complete devaluation of that feature. For now, I enabled “always expand posts marked with content warnings”. The idea that all software have be modular and easy to combine in large modules. Pretty much like standard cat, grep, ls, awk, find, jq etc can be combined into something bigger that each of them individually. That idea of simple components/building blocks repetitively pops up through all my career and projects I worked on.

Wouldn’t it be beneficial for the users if the platforms don’t have that luxury to keep users within their platforms and have to do better to earn loyalty of the users rather that rely on “vendor lock”.
