In some ways #mastodon reminds of of the early days of the internet. The exciting part was not the consumption, but the prospect of connecting with people you would never normally be able to meet. Folks very different than you, but also those with similar niche interests. There was an effort required to seek out the “new” instead of it being delivered directly into you feed. This is the Internet it remember! Weird and friendly people just figuring things out and connecting!
