First attempt at crocheting a hyperbolic plane, a nice activity and a nice result (but surprisingly hard to take a representative picture).
I already have plans for the next versions, which will be crocheted in the round and much curlier (is that a word?). In the meantime, I also found many books I'd like to buy on this or related subjects. I might get carried away in one of my infinite loops, we'll see how it goes.

With a short first post explaining how I got out of the infinite loop of building the website exactly how I wanted (which would have never happened).
The website is built with @eleventy on @glitchdotcom , with some help from the CSS of Oregano blog made by @tyler

Most of my time goes to my family (partner, young kid and baby on the way) and to my job (with a big project getting close to the end), both rewarding and exhausting in their own ways. I still have some time left for me, but very little energy. But I still have so many interests, I can't seem to decide "that's it, I'll focus on just this project for the next months".

I know how privileged I am to be able to work remotely and keep my kid at home when they're sick - I have a job, I can do it remotely, my team is very flexible and understanding, and I also feel so lucky to have a kid, with a partner that shares all responsibilities with me.
But honestly, it's so, so exhausting. My energy is very low, and when small times of calm appear I am torn between wanting to do something for myself, and not wanting anything, so I just sit there.

I chose mathstodon.xyz because, like music, maths seem to have always been here regardless of my current interests.
Many years ago, when I started my studies, I wanted to go into theoretical maths. I then branched to engineering, but with a strong interest in applied maths. As years went by, applications have included structures, vibrations, acoustics, and now heat transfer.

Currently, my main interests outside of work and family are:
- choir music, music theory, contemporary music
- generative art, and getting to know p5.js better
I only have short moments to dedicate to both each week, but hopefully I get to dig a bit more before a new shiny interest kicks in :)
I am continuously inspired and excited by many, many things and these things seem to change periodically. I used to see that as a fault: if I never stick very long to anything, why bother with anything new? I now see that in a very different light: first, those interests tend to come back cyclically, and to be related to a few main themes (music, visual arts, science), so I build on them when they come back, and they feed each other; also, learning new things all the time is just fun!

Especially considering the elitism around maths & programming that can exist in Western societies. I just feel I'm on the other side of the mirror, with maths and code knowledge and zero art training, and I'd love to discover new ressources!

- Generative Design: my first introduction to generative art and p5.js, I like that the illustrations range from simple to actual works of art, and it covers a lot of concepts
- Code as Creative Medium: very inspiring book, I intend to dig more into it as I go along to feed my creativity
- Coding Train channel: love Dan Shiffman's energy, and challenges do scratch the itch of more advanced concepts

Hi scientists who create generative art 👋
What are your favorite ressources on generative art? Especially books with nice equations and nice illustrations?
Most ressources I find are geared towards artists with little math/code background. Some of them are great and I use them for inspiration, but I'd like to go deeper on the equations side, and avoid the "what's a variable/loop" introductions.
Thanks!

No programming involved for lack of time, simply using existing applications. I know there are diverging views on this artform, but for me it has been a very exciting journey of experimentation, simply because of the combination of unexpected outcomes and instantaneous feedback.
Among my favorite themes: mountains.

👩💻 I'm a software developer based in Montréal (Canada), interested in all STEAM fields - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics. I share my time between engineering software development, my young family and music/arts. I'm especially interested in ideas and projects that link maths, code and arts.
Looking forward to seeing what's happening here on Mastodon, et j'espère aussi suivre ce qui se passe sur les communautés francophones!
