It makes me wonder what it would be like to participate in a snail mail continent-wide network though! The quality and type of content must be much different than me just spouting my thoughts to the open web!

Growing up with the internet means I never had to use these tools, with such slow feedback, to connect with people over niche interests. But even with a global indexed internet, I feel like I'm yelling to the void sometimes. So I love that somehow at the back of this hand exchanged book, there's a 5 page list of addresses ready to receive your mail.

Here's a few of the great illustrations, though I think the concepts are pretty contrived and it imposes a questionable hierarchy of power.

5.1.2019 00:59😁 or an app you oauth into that can also message you in Mastodon??Thinking about how I'd make a Memories app for Mastodon now... A bot that DMs you occasional memories? Or a standalone web app that users oauth into? A bot could only access public posts, but would interact with you inside of Mastodon. A standalone app could access private history, but you'd have to use a separate site to access it.

At best, they actually DO care. About monetized engagement. There's simply no way for FB to care about people the same way people care about people
