Actually just to be more consistent with the name I use on other sites.

I've gone by just "zooch" in a lot of my online life, but as it's hardly unique I decided a few years back to replace the only vowels with much more fun and spicy consonants.

It's kindof a nonsense word, but there's a fun concept in biology called zoochory, which is the dispersal of plant seeds by animals. So to be bold and make up words with an intentional disregard for their actual composition or other linguistic consequences, I would like to define it as "A seed that has evolved to be dispersed by animals."

Pronunciation is generally the same as zooch (soft ch), but I recognize the shortening of the original word would mean it still has a hard ch (as in, sounding like zook), but that seems like something that we can decide arbitrarily, you know, how language works.

I’ve been working in PS for a few years now and am trying to engage more with the technical background that got me into infosec in the first place. I was hooked after writing a buffer overflow exploit in an embedded systems course.

So here I am trying to embrace my roots, and see where I can plant new ones. Might dabble around some of the linux kernel, been meaning to write some Rust, oh and there’s this AI thing people keep talking about.

Just spent a ton of time today setting up my home network (virtualizing most of it on old devices). The amount of times I fucked up my DNS / DHCP config is staggering 😭. And I’m yet to set up VLANs and firewalls (aside from local stuff).

But once we have everything in place then comes self hosting everything imaginable, actually automating backups, organizing media, providing services for family and friends, etc. I’m really glad that I’ve pushed myself toward these goals as I have learned so much already in the process.
